Singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco will release a new studio album, "Educated Guess," Jan. 20 via her own Righteous Babe label. The set was recorded and produced entirely by DiFranco on a vintage reel-to-reel machine. It's the follow-up to this year's "Evolve," which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and No. 30 on The Billboard 200.

One-upping her own valiant D.I.Y. approach, the new disc marks the first time in DiFranco's career that she handled every aspect of the recording and mixing. In an effort to achieve a minimalist, intimate effect, "Educated Guess" was crafted in a shotgun shack in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans and in her home city of Buffalo, N.Y.

Consisting of titles like "Bubble" and "Swim," which focus on relationships, "Educated Guess" also houses a spoken word track, "Grand Canyon." The latter finds DiFranco balancing patriotism with dissent as she cries out for feminism, calling it "the coolest F-word ever." Other tracks on "Educated Guess" include "Platforms," "Origami," and "Bliss Like This."

DiFranco is in the midst of a short November tour of the East Coast and will perform tomorrow (Nov. 21) in New York. The artist is also set for a one-off show in Brazil on Dec. 7, and will kick off another round of U.S. dates Jan. 17 in Chicago.
