With Jay-Z's self-proclaimed final album topping the charts, his Roc-A-Fella label is taking a look back at its history with the singles compilation "The Roc Files, Vol. 1," due Dec. 16.
Label CEO/co-founder Damon Dash says in a statement that the disc is the first of a four-volume set Roc-A-Fella plans to release over the next year. "I felt it was time to remind people just how prolific and influential this label has been over the last 10 years," Dash said. "We have an incredible catalog, and I wanted to not only capitalize on its wealth, but to chronicle our history."
Co-founder Jay-Z appears on four of the 12 tracks: "It's Alright" featuring Memphis Bleek, "Sunshine," "City Is Mine" featuring Foxy Brown and "Love for Free" by Rell featuring Jay-Z. Memphis Bleek is also present on four tracks: "Memphis Bleek Is," "Mind Right," "What You Think of That" and the aforementioned "It's Alright."
Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Christion also appear on "Vol. 1," which ends with Young Gunz' "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" featuring Chingy.
In related news, the release date for the full-length Roc-A-Fella debut by duo Young Gunz, "Tough Luv," has been pushed back to Jan. 27 from its originally scheduled Jan. 13 date.
