Keith Caulfield answers readers' questions about Janet Jackson, Cyndi Lauper and American Juniors.

RHYTHM NATION: PREPARE

Hello Keith,

I absolutely adore Janet Jackson's voice, music and live concerts. I was wondering when her next project would be released. Will she be touring to support the album or is that a post-release decision?

Thanks!

Yanju Desalu

Hi Yanju,

Janet Jackson's as-yet-untitled eighth studio album is tentatively set for a Feb. 24 release. The Virgin album's first single, as yet unannounced, is due to be commercially released Jan. 27 in the U.S. As always, release dates are subject to change.

A tour may be in the works for next summer as well, but nothing has been announced officially yet.

Jackson's last set, "All for You," debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in 2001. The album has sold 3 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

AT LAST

Hi Keith,

Happy Holidays! I was just wondering where "At Last" from Cyndi Lauper debuted, or rather, how many units it moved. On Amazon.com's sales charts, it fluctuated between No. 5 and No. 7 the entire first week of release, even beating out Britney for several days, however, it didn't seem to chart in the top-25. What's the story?

Thanks,

Matthew Moyers

Hi Matthew,

Cyndi Lauper's "At Last" debuted at No. 38 on The Billboard 200, selling 47,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Daylight/Epic album is Lauper's first major-label studio effort since the holiday set "Merry Christmas ... Have a Nice Life!" in 1998. Previous to that, she issued the non-holiday set, "Sisters Of Avalon," in 1997.

In 2002, Lauper independently released the "Shine" EP. The five-track Oglio set has sold 41,000 copies to date.

She is currently on a promotional tour in support of "At Last." The trek will next see her at the Turning Stone Casino Resort in Verona, N.Y. on Dec. 12 and the State Theatre in New Brunswick, N.J., on Dec. 13.

LITTLE KIDS POP

Hi Keith,

It said on the American Juniors "Kids in America" soundtrack CD that the American Juniors' debut album was going to be released on Nov. 18. That date was obviously bumped, considering that it didn't come out.

One of the band members said on americanjuniorsmusic.com that the date was changed to sometime in early 2004. I was wondering if you could find out what day Jive plans to release the album.

Thank you very much,

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Indeed, the American Juniors debut album was originally slated for a Nov. 18 bow on Jive, however, that release date has been shifted. A new date has not yet been announced.

The companion album to the Fox show "American Juniors," titled "Kids in America," has sold 43,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. It featured performances from all of the show's finalists. A CD single, "One Step Closer," has sold 27,000.

The American Juniors group is made up of: Taylor and Tori Thompson, Chauncey Matthews, Lucy Hale and Danielle White.
