Pop-soul vocalist Kelis this week releases "Tasty," her third album, and first for the Neptunes' Star Trak imprint via Arista. The 24-year-old New York native's new disc has gotten a massive pre-release boost from the single "Milkshake," which rocketed 12-4 this week on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Neptunes assist on a number of tracks, including the single. Elsewhere on the album, Kelis gets assistance from producers Dallas Austin ("Trick Me," "Keep It Down"), P. Diddy ("Guilty Girl") and ex-Toni Tony Tone frontman Raphael Saadiq ("Glow," "Marathon," "Harlem Streets").
"I had so much time alone with the music," Kelis says. "The album feels very intimate, and it very clearly reflects where I am in my life right now. I feel comfortable, settled."
Well-known for her guest appearances with the likes of Ol' Dirty Bastard and Busta Rhymes, Kelis is also featured on the Neptunes' "Clones" compilation disc and OutKast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below."
