Soul legend Smokey Robinson is preparing to release his first inspirational/gospel album, "Food for the Spirit." The nine-song set will be released March 30 on Minneapolis-based gospel label Liquid 8 Records.

Robinson composed each of the songs on "Food for the Spirit," including single contenders "Let Your Light Shine," "Road to Damascus" and "Gang Bangin'." Videos for each of those tracks were recently shot in Los Angeles. The album was produced by Michael Stokes.

"Food for the Spirit" is Motown legend Robinson's first album since 1999's "Intimate" (Uptown/Universal) and only his third since leaving longtime label Motown in 1990. The artist plans to tour early next year, though the concerts will not cover the gospel material. He will make a number of gospel-themed promotional appearances on television and radio.
