LL Cool J has joined the cast of the film "Edison." The rapper-turned-actor will co-star with Kevin Spacey and Morgan Freeman in the film, which is the story of an elite police team rife whose corruption is documented by a young journalist. An Emmett/Furla Films project, "Edison" will mark the feature film debut for writer/director David Burke ("Wiseguy," "Law & Order: SVU").

Earlier this year, LL Cool J was seen on the silver screen in "S.W.A.T" and co-stars with Val Kilmer and Christian Slater in "Mindhunters," due Jan. 24 in North American theaters.

LL Cool J's last album, 2002's "10," debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200. Earlier this year, he renewed his contract with Def Jam, the label with whom he's spent his entire career. The rapper in the midst of working on a new album due sometime next year.

LL Cool J will also be among the many celebrities appearing Wednesday (Dec. 10) during the Billboard Music Awards. The event will be broadcast live on Fox beginning at 8 p.m. ET (tape delayed on the West Coast).
