Billboard and the Berklee College of Music have partnered in an online career center for music industry professionals and musicians. Located on the BerkleeMusic.com Web site, the co-branded venture offers job listings and career resources specifically tailored to music-related vocations.
"The goal of the project is to create the largest database of jobs and gigs in the music business on the planet," says Dave Kusek, Associate Vice President of Berklee College of Music.
The school launched its online career center about a year ago based on the resources Berklee offers its students on campus. The partnership with Billboard seeks to expand its offerings and increase an audience that already counts more than 20,000 registered members.
"Berklee has a long relationship with Billboard that dates back many years," Kusek says. "By bringing Billboard's reputation and contacts in the industry into the fold, we can improve the quality of the jobs that are in the database and make more companies in the industry aware of this resource.
"Alliances such as this are important for the continued prosperity of music in our economy and mark a move that has the interest of working artists and the accompanying industry in mind," he adds.
A $49 Passport membership provides access to the job listings, which are broken down by performance, production, writing, business and education opportunities. Membership also allows individuals to tap into a growing well of developmental resources and a personal multi-media directory page.
There is no cost to companies or individuals for posting employment listings.
"The site is entirely focused on careers in the industry," Kusek says. "It serves the artist's side and the business side. It's a very serious resource."
