Jake Bailey, Celebrity Makeup Artist, Dies at 37
Jake Bailey, a celebrity makeup artist who has worked with artists like Katy Perry, Selena Gomez and Mariah Carey, was found dead in his Los Angeles home on Friday morning (Oct. 23), Billboard has confirmed. He was 37.
The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but law enforcement officials reportedly told TMZ that Bailey appeared to have succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning in an "apparent suicide."
Bailey did Gomez's makeup for the cover of her latest album Revival and for her recent Billboard cover, and according to his Instagram, he had been styling her as she promoted the album over the past couple of weeks. His portfolio also includes Perry's covers of Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire.
UPDATE: Bailey's rep emailed this statement to Billboard: "It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Jake Bailey's passing. He was an undeniable talent, a great friend, a loving son and brother, and our grief is shared with all those whose lives he's touched.
"As one of the industry's most sought after makeup artists, Jake worked with an incredible client roster and his work has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue Italia, Vanity Fair and Allure. He collaborated with some of the top photographers in the fashion and entertainment industries and was also a passionate photographer himself. Jake was a mentor to many, and his work will continue to inspire. He will be truly missed by those who knew him."
