Shelby Lynne has joined the cast of the Johnny Cash biopic, "Walk the Line." The singer/songwriter will portray the late country music icon's mother, Carrie Cash, in the Fox Searchlight film, due in theaters in spring 2005.

Lynne is currently on location shooting the film in Memphis. As previously reported, Joaquin Phoenix will star as Cash, while Reese Witherspoon will play his wife, late country artist June Carter Cash. James Mangold ("Girl, Interrupted") is directing.

The film's shooting schedule has put on hold recording sessions for Lynne's next album, the follow-up to 2003's "Identity Crisis" (Capitol). She had been working with producer John Porter (Ryan Adams, the Smiths), as well as Wallflowers guitarist Michael Ward and harmonica player Mickey Raphael.
