MAGIC MAN: New Orleans rapper Magic scores his first singles chart position as a lead artist this week with the single "I Smoke, I Drank" featuring Youngbloodz and Roy Jones Jr.

Entering at No. 38 on Airplay Monitor's R&B/Hip-Hop chart, the song is also the first appearance on the charts for his label Body Head Entertainment; the musical venture of boxing champion-turned-rapper Jones.

The Dirty South artist moved into the Master P conclave No Limit Records in 1998, releasing "Sky's the Limit" and "Thuggin,'" which peaked at No. 15 and No. 53 on The Billboard 200, respectively. Magic survived the label's restructure as The New No Limit Records in the early '00s and released his last album for the label -- "White Eyes" - in 2003.

Magic's only prior singles action came in 2000, when he appeared with Snoop Dogg on C-Murder's "Down For My N's," which went to No. 29 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart.

RupeeTEMPTATION ISLAND:One of Barbados' longtime stars is gearing up for a U.S. bow via Atlantic Records. Soca-reggae singer Rupee -- whose real name is Rupert Clarke -- hit Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Sales chart at No. 69 this week with his first U.S. single "Tempted to Touch."

The German-born artist toured the world and produced international ragga-soca hits like "Ice Cream" and "Thundah" as part of the Barbados group Coalishun in the 1990s. As a solo entertainer, he released the single "Jump," which won numerous accolades in Barbados as a most-played and most-requested track.

The song eventually caught on in Trinidad and Tobago -- birthplace of the soca genre -- where he received heavy airplay and scored a second hit title "Insomnia."

Much like fellow soca artist and labelmate Kevin Lyttle, Rupee's U.S. debut -- expected later this year -- will combine pure soca, ragga soca and reggae styles.
