News on Robbie Robertson, Mindy Smith and Guided By VoicesRobbie Robertson's first original composition for a film and soundtrack, "Shine Your Light," will be found on the soundtrack to "Ladder 49," due Sept. 28 via Hollywood. The album will also feature a separate version of the track subtitled "Reflection -- Adagio."
"Ladder 49" boasts previously released tracks from Tom Petty, the Breeders, Bonnie Raitt, the Pogues and the Ohio Players, among others. The Black Crowes' "Twice as Hard" is prominently featured in the film's theatrical preview.
Starring John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix, "Ladder 49" opens Oct. 1 in U.S. theaters.

Singer/songwriter Mindy Smith will open her first national headlining tour Oct. 1 at the Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C. House of Blues will produce the 29-date tour, which will wrap Nov. 7 at the Los Angeles House of Blues outlet and feature special guests Charlie Mars and Garrison Star.
In conjunction with the tour, Smith will in October be featured on the Sirius House of Blues Emerging Artist of the Month series, which is devoted to developing young artists. Tour dates can be found on her official Web site.
Smith will be touring in support of her debut Vanguard release "One Moment More," which debuted in February at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart and No. 5 on the Top Independent Albums tally. She headlined select dates last spring after testing the touring waters by opening for John Hiatt and Nickel Creek.

As he prepares for the final Guided By Voices tour, frontman Robert Pollard seems to be doing some housecleaning. Currently open for bidding on Web-auction site eBay are nine rare, autographed GBV/Pollard solo releases listed as "from Bob Pollard's personal collection."
The lots range from autographed vinyl copies of Guided By Voices albums "Mag Earwhig!" (Matador) and "Isolation Drills" (TVT) to the rarer vinyl collection "Earful O' Wax" and the out-of-print bootleg "King's Ransom." The most expensive item listed is an original vinyl copy of Guided By Voices' breakthrough album "Propeller," with hand-glued cover art created by Pollard -- asking price starts at $1,000.
As previously reported, GBV plans to break up following a New Year's Eve concert at Chicago's Metro. The band's final album, "Half-Smiles of the Decomposed," was released yesterday (Aug. 24) via Matador.
