"A&E in Concert" specials picked up two awards for "Sting: Sacred Love" (outstanding technical direction, camerawork and sound mixing for a miniseries, movie or a special), and one for "Paul McCartney in Red Square" (multi-camera picture editing). Guitar innovator Les Paul was accorded the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Award, one of several special engineering honors given by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS).
Overall, HBO was the Emmys' most-honored network, taking 32 awards. Its mini-series "Angels in America" won a record-setting 11 Emmys, while the HBO drama "The Sopranos" won four, including best drama.
