McDonald's first "Motown" volume was a left-field smash hit, reaching No. 14 on The Billboard 200 and selling 1.29 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It was his first album to reach the chart since 1990's "Take It to Heart."
A number of special promotions are on tap for the new album, including a 7-Up tie-in that will feature McDonald's face on several million cans, beginning November. He has also taped a PBS "Soundstage" special for broadcast this fall and will perform on the Dec. 25 NBC special "Holiday on Ice."
The artist has 15 dates remaining on his fall schedule, including performances tonight (Sept. 24) and tomorrow in Atlantic City, N.J. He is also confirmed for Wednesday's Ray Charles tribute event in Beverly Hills, Calif., alongside comedian Bill Cosby and artists Billy Preston, Gerald Levert, James Ingram and Angie Stone.
