News on We The Planet, Corgan, Butch Walker

RootsThe Roots, the Dead's Mickey Hart, the Coup, Michelle Shocked and Third Eye Blind are the first acts to sign on for the second We the Planet Music and Activism Festival. The event will be held Nov. 13 at the Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland, Calif., with a host of additional acts to be announced. Power will be generated without tapping into the city's traditional supply, thanks to bio-diesel fuel generators and solar panels.

Prior to the music, We the Planet will also host workshops on media, activism and voting. Tickets (printed on hemp/flax paper with soy ink) go on sale Sunday (Oct. 10) via In House Tickets. VIP packages are available from Circle of Life by calling (510) 601-9790 ext. 6.

Last year's inaugural We the Planet show in San Francisco featured Alanis Morissette, Cake and De La Soul. A subsequent tour under that moniker included Tracy Chapman, Ben Taylor and Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napolitano.

ButchSinger/songwriter Butch Walker has signed on as the support act for Avril Lavigne's upcoming North American tour, which kicks off Oct. 25 in Dallas and wraps Nov. 25 in Kelowna, British Columbia. Walker will be backed on the road by members of rock act American Hi-Fi.

Walker collaborated extensively with Lavigne on her latest Arista album, "Under My Skin," and also worked with the artist on her rendition of the "SpongeBob SquarePants" theme song, to be released Nov. 9 on the Warner Bros. film soundtrack.

"This tour is gonna rock," Walker says. "I can't wait to play in front of arenas filled with people every night. I just hope I don't pee my pants. That would suck." The artist will be supporting his latest Epic solo album, "Letters," which debuted at No. 10 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart.
