Matchbox twenty guitarist Kyle Cook will on Oct. 29 self-release the debut EP from his side band, the New Left. The six-track "Let Go" finds Cook collaborating with drummer Brett Borges, bassist John Kibler and vocalist Eamon Ryland.

"Each of us in matchbox twenty wanted to put some emphasis on new musical directions for awhile," Cook says. "And after three multi-platinum records, and eight years of international touring, the timing felt right for us to explore our other projects during this break."

Cook previously played in high school with Borges and Kibler in the mostly covers band Downpour. "The 'pocket' was instant and I knew that we had found something special in each other," Cook says.

The band will play 28 U.S. dates this fall in support of "Let Go," beginning on the day of release in St. Louis. That show is a benefit for spinal cord injury research organization Gateway to a Cure. Fans will be able to purchase the EP via the New Left's official Web site and at shows.
