Singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge is recovering from two surgeries to treat breast cancer. Doctors removed a tumor and a few of the artist's lymph nodes, only one of which had become infected. "I still have both of my breasts and whether I will keep them is a bridge I have to cross later," Etheridge writes on her official Web site. "What an unexpected journey this is."
Etheridge says she will soon begin chemotherapy treatment. "Who knows what that will bring," she writes. Plans are also moving forward on her pilot for ABC, in which she will star as a gay woman raising the daughter of a friend with her straight male roommate.
Etheridge added she will be writing new songs to appear on an upcoming Island greatest hits album. The artist was forced to cancel several tour dates in support of her latest release, "Lucky," to accommodate cancer treatment.
"I will be back and rockin' in just a few months," she concludes.
