LL Cool J is joining the cast of "Last Holiday. The Paramount Pictures remake of the 1950 British comedy will find him playing an ex-con who has a secret crush on the main character, played by fellow rapper-turned-actor Queen Latifah.

The original film starred Alec Guinness as a poor clerk who, with only a few months to live, decides to take one last holiday, during which he's mistaken for an eccentric aristocrat. In the new version, directed by Wayne Wang, Queen Latifah will play a shy clerk who goes on a European vacation after she learns that she is terminally ill.

LL Cool J's latest film is director Reny Harlin's "Mindhunters," in which he is billed as James Todd Smith aka LL Cool J. The film, which also stars Jonny Lee Miller and Val Kilmer, opened in international markets throughout the year and is slated for North American release in 2005.

Last month, LL Cool J's 11th album, "The DEFinition," debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 4 on The Billboard 200. The Def Jam set has sold nearly 460,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
