Along with performing in front of worshipping fans all summer, singer/songwriter John Mayer was busy taping episodes of a show that will premiere Dec. 9 on VH1. The obviously named "John Mayer Has a TV Show" will look behind the scenes at the artist's life on the road.

Among the hijinks viewers can expect from the half-hour show is a disguised Mayer in a bear suit checking out the pre-concert parking lot scene and a tour of Nashville with rapper Trick Daddy.

Mayer spent the summer touring in support of his Aware/Columbia album "Heavier Things." Released in September 2003, the set debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 1.8 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set's latest single, "Daughters," is No. 22 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary airplay chart and No. 40 on the Hot 100.

The tour spawned a limited-edition two-disc set of live recordings, "As/Is," that was released last month. Along with favorites such as "Your Body Is a Wonderland" and "Only Heart," Mayer covers Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)."

Through the end of the year, Mayer has just a handful of appearances scheduled, all at radio station-sponsored holiday events. He'll perform Dec. 6 at KYSR (Star 98.7) Los Angeles' Not So Silent Night concert, Dec. 9 at WXKS (Kiss 108) Medford/Boston's Jingle Ball and Dec. 12 as part of WHY1 (Y100) Miami's Jingle Ball.

Mayer is nominated in the favorite male singer category for the People's Choice Awards. Voting is open via the event's Web site, with the awards to be handed out Jan. 9 in Los Angeles, and broadcast live on CBS.
