Fred Bronson reports on chart activity relating to Ciara, Jimmy Eat World and Hall & Oates.

1, 2 HITS: Ciara's only two Billboard Hot 100 chart entries are both in the top 10 this week, in adjacent positions. "1, 2 Step" (Sho'Nuff-MusicLine/LaFace), which features Missy Elliott, moves 13-9 while its predecessor, "Goodies," featuring Petey Pablo, falls 6-10.

Ciara's achievement is reminiscent of how Ashanti kicked off her career. Her first three chart entries were all in the top 10 at the same time. She was the first act since the Beatles to accomplish that hat trick.

'PAIN' ON THE CHART: Jimmy Eat World collects the second No. 1 of its career on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart, as "Pain" marches 2-1. The group's only other No. 1 hit was "The Middle," which spent four weeks in pole position in April 2002.

"Pain" is the fifth chart entry for Jimmy Eat World on the modern tally.

'AROUND' AND 'AROUND': Daryl Hall and John Oates score their 14th top 10 hit on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, as their remake of the Spinners' "I'll Be Around" (U-Watch) leaps 14-8.

The original version marked the Spinners' AC debut, and peaked at No. 31 in 1972.
