Watch New 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Teaser Trailer
Rarely does a certain galaxy seem quite as far, far away as it does when a new Star Wars trailer drops, as proven by Thursday's (April 16) release of the second peek at this year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The new trailer, released to coincide with the beginning of the four-day Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, Calif. (An event being live streamed at the official Star Wars site), gives audiences a closer look at what director J.J. Abrams has done to the space opera universe first unveiled by George Lucas in 1977's original Star Wars.
Over a monologue from Luke Skywalker talking about the strength of the Force in his family (and a shot of Darth Vader's partially-destroyed helmet), the audience is treated to a number of visual references to earlier movies in the series, including a downed Star Destroyer, a number of Storm Troopers and a fight between a Tie Fighter and the Millennium Falcon, but nothing was as potent a moment of nostalgia as the final shot, with Han Solo showing up on screen and telling Chewbacca, "Chewie... we're home." Millions of fans immediately agreed.
The Force Awakens features the return of original franchise leads Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, alongside newcomers Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega.
Also appearing in the movie are Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis and Domhnall Gleeson. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released Dec. 18.
