Breaking & Entering: A look at acts breaking at radio and retail and entering Billboard charts. This week: Michael Gray.

Profiling acts breaking at radio and/or retail and entering Billboard's charts.

U.K. remix producer Michael Gray makes his first Billboard chart appearance this week with "The Weekend." The infectious promise of weekend fun makes a No. 16 bow on the Hot Dance Radio Airplay list.

Billed as the latest anthem for office workers, the song punctuates with Moog synth rhythms with a theatrical chorus and features vocals by veteran dance songstress, Shena. The song -- originally released on limited white label promotional pressings in the U.K. - is Gray's first crossover hit with the U.S. release on dance label Ultra Records and is available through iTunes.

Though Gray's mixing credits as one half of the production duo Full Intention include artists like George Michael, Brandy, Powerhouse, Jennifer Lopez and, most recently, Christina Milian's Billboard Hot 100 top 10 "Dip it Low," his latest single is the first credited without partner Jon Pearn.

Gray got his start at age 12, DJ-ing in underage clubs throughout London. Together since the early 90s, he and Pearn have released countless EPs in the U.K., and will release a 10th anniversary edition album later this year.

Gray, who records in a home studio outside London, recently finished co-writing and producing the latest albums for electro clash group Koolwah and new Island Records U.K. new wave act Portobella.
