Dave Matthews Band will play its first-ever shows in Australia in March. In addition to a March 24 appearance at the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Byron Bay, the group will play in Melbourne (March 20-21), Brisbane (March 23) and Sydney (March 26), according to Sony Music Australia, to which the band is signed in the territory.
DMB was to make its Australian debut in the fall of 2001, but planned dates there and in Europe were scrapped in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
As previously reported, the group is eyeing a late spring release for its as-yet-untitled next RCA studio album, which it is producing in tandem with Mark Baston (Seal, India.Arie). DMB has set up a >dedicated Web site for fans to track progress of the sessions.
The band will be joined at the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival by such acts as Sarah McLachlan, Jack Johnson, Violent Femmes, Gomez, Bright Eyes, George Clinton, Solomon Burke and Kasey Chambers. Tickets for the event, which runs from March 24-28, go on sale Feb. 1.
