Alicia Keys, Good Charlotte, Kelly Clarkson, Hoobastank and Simple Plan will perform at the MTV Asia Aid benefit for tsunami relief, to be held Feb. 3 at Impact Arena in Bangkok. Jennifer Lopez, Sting, 50 Cent, Ricky Martin, Nelly, Green Day, Moby and Ronan Keating will offer specially taped messages of support during the broadcast, which will be shown on all MTV channels worldwide.
Asian acts set to take part in the show include India's Asha Bhosle, Thailand's Bird Thongchai McIntyre and Tata Young, Taiwan's Jay Chou, Japan's Namie Amuro, South Korea's Shinhwa, Malaysia's Siti Nurhaliza and Indonesia's Slank.
As previously reported, MTV had originally planned to hold its annual Asia Awards ceremony in the Thai capital on Feb. 3, but on Jan. 7 announced that it was "repositioning" it as the global benefit MTV Asia Aid.
CNN International will also support the event with specially created vignettes highlighting the need for continued support of the relief efforts.
"We wanted to take our relief efforts directly to Southeast Asia through MTV's Asia Aid benefit," says MTV Networks International president Bill Roedy. "The response so far has been overwhelming, and the event will bring together diverse artists from across the globe to offer hope and inspiration."
