Six-time Oscar nominee "Ray," starring best actor contender Jamie Foxx, sold more than 2 million combined DVD and VHS units Tuesday during its first day in release on home video, according to industry sources.

The Ray Charles biopic, which is also up for best picture and a best director (Taylor Hackford) awards, generated more than $44 million in gross consumer home video spending during its first 24 hours on store shelves. Estimates of consumer rental spending on "Ray" will not be made available until next week.

As previously reported, Charles will be further celebrated during the Feb. 13 Grammy Awards ceremony, where Bonnie Raitt and Billy Preston will perform a tribute to the late R&B icon.
