Instead, the tentatively titled "Roadrunner All-Stars" will feature new music written and produced by four label artists who will in turn tap a cast of musicians plucked from the Roadrunner roster to create each song.
Slipknot's Joey Jordison, former Fear Factory/current Brujeria member Dino Cazares and Machine Head's Robert Flynn are confirmed as members of the core writing team, with a fourth artist yet to be named. Tentatively scheduled for a fall release, the album is being overseen by Monte Conner, a longtime member of the Roadrunner A&R staff.
"I am really excited about having the opportunity to be a part of this landmark event," says Flynn says. "I just got [ex-Chimaira member] Andols [Herrick] locked in as the drummer and Mick [Thompson] from Slipknot on guitar, so I'm f***ing stoked!"
Other musicians who have signed on to the project are Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser, Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, former Soulfly members Roy Mayorga (drums) and Marcelo Dias (bass), Machine Head drummer Dave McClain and the band's former guitarist Logan Mader, former Coal Chamber bassist Nadja Peulen and Spineshank guitarist Mike Sarkisyan.
The set will also likely include the participation of such Roadrunner luminaries as former Sepultura/current Soulfly mastermind Max Cavalera, King Diamond and Fear Factory/Front Line Assembly's Rhys Fulber, as well as members of Life Of Agony, Killswitch Engage, Chimaira, Obituary, Glassjaw and more.
"I'm really looking forward to the upcoming RR All-Stars record," Jordison says. "Mainly for the chance to work with musicians whom I've respected for years and have been heavily influenced by. Expect a unique record of collaborations of artists through the 25 years of RR."
