Imagine Dragons Return with ‘I Bet My Life’ Single: Listen
Imagine Dragons’ Night Visions is one of the decade’s biggest debut rock albums, spawning three Top 20 hits on the Hot 100 and making the Las Vegas act a Grammy winner for Best Rock Performance with their smash “Radioactive.” In other words: a tough act to follow! The quartet has begun the endeavor with “I Bet My Life,” the folk-tinged first single from their upcoming sophomore full-length.
“I Bet My Life” has all the trappings of a deluxe Mumford jam: foot-stomps, handclaps, canned backing vocals that sound like they were recorded in a barn, and the story of a troubadour settling down with the woman he loves. Although the new single is far removed from the electronic dust storm of “Radioactive,” “I Bet My Life” carries an equally massive chorus, on which Dan Reynolds tilts his head back and joyfully shrieks, “I bet my life on you!”
Imagine Dragons had teased the new track on Twitter last week before finally unleashing “I Bet My Life” on at midnight on Monday morning (Oct. 27). Apparently Imagine Dragons are not the least bit afraid of having the lead single to their sophomore LP upstaged by the simultaneous release of Taylor Swift’s 1989!
“There are a lot of road songs and all the emotions that come with that,” Reynolds told Billboard in May about the group’s in-the-works second album. “I think it will be a special record because it really encapsulated the whole process of going from being a small nothing band to actually playing arenas. There are a lot of interesting things that go on between that. We’re excited with how it’s turning out.”
