INSERT SNARKY HEADLINE HERE

Hey Keith,

I've been anxiously waiting for Paris Hilton's debut into the music world. I've read a lot about the album but haven't really had any luck finding out any release date information. I know she's signed to Warner Bros. Records and I know her single "Screwed" has been ready for release for a while. Do you know what the delay is? Do you know when the album will come out?

Thanks so much!

Mark

Hi Mark,

You're not the only one dying to get Paris Hilton's album. We've been hearing about this project for what seems like forever. She recently said that the album will come out before the end of the year, and described its sound as Blondie meets Gwen Stefani.

But it's unknown when the album will actually hit stores -– Warner Bros. has yet to announce a release date.

ELUSIVE CHART GLORY

Keith,

Love your column -- my week wouldn't be complete without it!

I'm not sure if you'll be able to answer the one, but I've always been curious: which act (solo or group) has sold the most albums without ever netting a No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100? The Backstreet Boys immediately come to mind; despite their huge album sales, they never went to No. 1 on the Hot 100.

Hopefully you and your readers can shed some light on this for me!

Take care,

Christopher Yannuzzi

Hi Christopher,

While this is probably more up Fred Bronson's alley over at Chart Beat, I'll field this one. Because Nielsen SoundScan only began tracking sales data in 1991, we have to use the Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA) top sellers list, which uses shipments to U.S. retailers as the basis for its rankings.

Elvis Presley and the Beatles are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, on the RIAA's all-time best-sellers list –- and both had Hot 100 No. 1s. Led Zeppelin, which ranks third, never had a No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit, coming closest with "Whole Lotta Love" in 1970, which peaked at No. 4.

Other top selling acts that have never had a No. 1 on the Hot 100 include: Garth Brooks, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, George Strait, Kenny G, Alabama and Shania Twain. (Springsteen has had many top 10 hits –- seven from the album "Born in the U.S.A" alone –- but he's never performed a No. 1 hit, although Manfred Mann scored one with his cover of Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light.")

STATESIDE KYLIE

Hi Keith,

Can you please tell me the U.S. sales figures for Kylie Minogue's "Fever," "Body Language" and "Ultimate Kylie" CDs? And is she coming to the United States on tour?

Thank you,

Majid Kazmi

Hi Majid,

Sadly, Kylie Minogue isn't scheduled to visit the United States with her "Showgirl" tour. The trek is slated to wrap with a June 26 performance at England's Glastonbury Festival.

Minogue's "Fever" has sold 1.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, since its 2002 release. The 2004 follow-up "Body Language" has only shifted a meager 164,000 units to date. This year's "Ultimate Kylie" compilation has only sold 20,000 since it's February U.S. release.
