Foo Fighters Release ‘Something From Nothing’ Lyric Video
On Oct. 17, Foo Fighters fans got their first taste of the band’s HBO documentary series Sonic Highways, which follows the creation of their new album of the same name. And like clockwork, Dave Grohl and company have just shared the studio version of Sonic Highways’ lead single, “Something From Nothing.” Check out the lyric video below:
Foo Fighters spent the creation of Sonic Highways traversing the United States, interviewing multi-genre musical legends, and molding their inspiration into what they’ve called a “love letter to the history of American music.” Even so, “Something From Nothing” isn’t the Foos’ foray into soul, R&B, or doo-wop.
The Foo Fighters still sound like the Foo Fighters here, but they’ve clearly put extra effort into the songwriting ebb and flow of their new song. “Something From Nothing” shakes and simmers, building momentum with every verse, before exploding in its final chorus.
The band debuted “Something From Nothing” live Friday night (Oct. 17) at Chicago’s Cubby Bear as the documentary premiered on HBO. In the episode, Grohl interviews Chicago musical icons like Buddy Guy, Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen, Naked Raygun, and Steve Albini, whose words inspired the new track.
"The episode is basically about these people and how they all started with nothing," Grohl told reporters at the New York screening for the Chicago episode last week. "They were just inspired to follow their dreams, like Buddy Guy, legendary blues guitarist. He made his first guitar from wires and nails and pieces of wood from a screen porch. Now he's like a blues legend.
The Butch Vig-produced Sonic Highways album will be released on Nov. 10.
