In the wake of a breast cancer diagnosis, international pop star Kylie Minogue is expected to undergo an operation this week in Melbourne. Up to this point, tests confirm that the disease has not spread to other parts of her body, according to a statement, which notes one of "Australia's leading surgeons" will conduct the procedure.

"I want to reassure you that I am being well taken care of," Minogue says, noting that friends, family and boyfriend Olivier Martinez are with her offering support.

Minogue revealed her illness earlier this week and canceled plans for a month-long homecoming tour of Australia that was due to launch tonight (May 18) in Sydney.

Since the announcement, Minogue's official Web site has been inundated with so many fans that Web masters were forced to reduce the site's offerings to news pages and a message board to accommodate the traffic.

"I would also like to extend my best wishes to all of the other women around Australia and around the world who are dealing with the same illness," Minogue adds in the statement and asks that fans who have inquired about sending cards and flowers instead make donations to breast cancer charities.
