Veteran rocker Joan Jett, rapper Chingy and modern rock act Fountains Of Wayne are among the acts slated to take part in the third Nike Run Hit Wonder tour. The concept finds artists performing along the foot race route to encourage runners of every level with live music.

The 2005 version of the tour will visit New York's Central Park July 20 for a 5 mile race and include 5K and 10K events in Portland (July 24), Chicago (Sept. 13) and Los Angeles (Sept. 24). Other artists confirmed to take part are the Donnas, Nina Sky and DJ Z-Trip.

In addition to the entertainment, all finishers receive medals, while male, female and wheelchair winners will receive a Fender Squier Stratocaster guitar.

Nike is also hosting preparation events for runners in each city, with free advice from running coaches, Nike gear tryouts and entertainment by local DJs. Additionally, the company's community affairs program, NikeGO, will donate race entries to local youth groups in each city, while Portland Park & Recreation will also receive $100,000 to fund programs aimed at getting kids to be active.
