In a career that lasted nearly 50 years, Mancini (1924-1994) was known for jazzy, romantic music that mainstream pop music audiences embraced. His best-known songs include "Moon River," "Baby Elephant Walk," "Peter Gunn" and "The Pink Panther Theme," all of which are included in the collection.

Mancini's musical career started in 1946 with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, an experience that would be translated to film in 1954 when he wrote the dance arrangements for The Glenn Miller Story and The Benny Goodman Story. Mancini's career in film music began in 1952 when he signed with Universal-International to write arrangements on the Abbott and Costello comedy Lost in Alaska. His first major dramatic assignment was to score Orson Welles' Touch of Evil.

Mancini won four Oscars and 20 Grammys during his career.
