The day after his Aug. 15 arrest in Las Vegas for disturbing the peace, rapper Kid Ink was part of the bill for the Uforia festival in Los Angeles. As his scheduled 5:45 p.m. slot came and went, backstage rumblings were that he would not be appearing. But the rapper suddenly appeared sometime after 7 p.m. and took the stage for a brief set.
The rapper tells Billboard that has no concerns that the charges in Las Vegas will be an issue. Asked about what happened Friday night, when it is alleged a scuffle broke out around 2 a.m. following his appearance at 1 OAK, he just says, “It’s all good. I’m just looking forward to taking my tour overseas in the next few days.”
Kid Ink gave fans a head’s up via Twitter that he was coming. “L.A. you’ll never believe the day I had, but I’m here!! #UforiaFestival I’m on in 15 minutes. Better late than never!!” he wrote.
The rapper says there was never any doubt that he’d make the day-long festival, a combination of Latin music and hip-hop that also featured Kid Cudi, Nelly, Ludacris and more.
“I knew I would be there because I wanted to be there,” Kid Ink told Billboard after the set. “I know what it’s like to have an artist not show up and I didn’t want to disappoint my fans.”
That was particularly true for him as he’d been looking forward to this date. “I had this marked for months,” he said. “Being back on the West Coast, playing down the street from places I used to go.”
The rapper had another show not far from home on Sunday (Aug. 17), playing the Observatory in Santa Ana, Calif. The next four months will be largely overseas building his fan base there, he says. Kid Ink hits Australia this week, then an extended European tour.
