Watch Robyn & Röyksopp Space Out for ‘Monument’ Video
Robyn and Röyksopp have released a promo for “Monument” that's so epic, it needs a companion video to tell the full story.
The six-minute-plus sci-fi inspired film was shot by director Max Vitali, who created a weightless, timeless space by shooting on a wire-based camera, also known as a “spider-cam”. The video, explains Vitali, “is about exploring the space around you and in you and finding your own space within it all. Half real, half fantasy. The way I see film is as a hybrid of technology and emotions, and hopefully there's an artistic vision there as well." In a way, he adds, "that is what Röyksopp & Robyn also do, they merge something real with something computer-generated to create bigger landscapes than possible without the help of technology.” The video was produced by VICE and Intel's The Creators Project and can be seen below.
Vitali, choreographer Jefta Van Dinther and Robyn go behind-the-scenes in the accompanying video. In it, Robyn describes the lead video as “a kind of inner journey which I think is also what the music is about. Like space in time and physicality and your own experience of your body.”
“Monument” appears on "Do It Again," a mini-album released in May which was wri'tten and produced collaboratively with all the Nordic trio of Robyn and Röyksopp's founders Svein Berge and Torbjorn Brundtland. All three took part “in every aspect of music-making," Berge told Billboard ahead of its release.
“Monument” will also be released across various territories as a remix package, including treatments from Mark E (a remix and a dub), and Kindness feat. Busiwa. Earlier this year, Robyn appeared in a Volvo commercial which used “Monument” as its soundbed.
