The Roots, Jermaine Dupri, Yellowcard, Fat Joe, Pete Yorn and five as-yet unannounced artists will perform as part of Ford Motors' new secretive Fusion Flash Concerts series.

The Roots will begin the 10-city summer series later this month in New York and will be quickly followed by Fat Joe in Atlanta. However, key details for most of the shows, including dates, cities, times and venues, will be kept hushed until the last minute, when registered "insiders" will receive alerts via text message and e-mail.

According to Ford, the twist is meant to mirror the "flash mob" phenomenon, where mass crowds converge on locations after receiving word by e-mail and text message. The shows will coincide with the launch of the company's 2006 Fusion Sedan.

Organizers are planning to release a compilation disc at the end of the series to be sold exclusively at Target. Interested fans can register for show alerts by visiting the series' Web site or texting "Go" to 35274 (Flash) on their mobile phones.
