M.I.A. is planning a return to North America for a brief fall headlining tour. The Sri Lankan-born, London-based hip-hop/dance artist's run will open Sept. 19, with 11 dates confirmed through an Oct. 5 show in San Francisco.
She is touring in support of her debut album, "Arular," released in March in the United States via XL/Interscope. The set peaked at No. 3 on the Top Electronic Albums list and has sold nearly 53,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Earlier this week, "Arular" was among the 12 albums included on the shortlist for the U.K.'s prestigious Nationwide Mercury Prize, alongside releases by such acts as Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party.
Prior to opening the tour, M.I.A. is booked to appear at Japan's Summer Sonic festivals in Tokyo (Aug. 13) and Osaka (Aug. 14), and, as previously reported, headline a free show at New York's Central Park Summerstage (Aug. 7).
