News on West Memphis 3, Bon Jovi, Jandek

MarkEleven benefit concerts will be held throughout the United States tomorrow (July 23) as part of the West Memphis Three Worldwide Awareness Day. Highlights include performances by Jonathan Richman and Red House Painters' Mark Kozelek at San Francisco's Swedish American Music Hall and a solo set by Everclear's Art Alexakis at McMenamins Lola's Room in Portland, Ore.

Proceeds will benefit legal defense funds for Jesse Misskelley Jr., Jason Baldwin and Damien Echols, who many believe were wrongly arrested and convicted for murdering three eight-year-old boys in West Memphis, Ark., in 1993.

Auctions will also be held at each benefit and have been bolstered by more than 30 pieces of memorabilia autographed by Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder. For more information, visit WM3.org.

JandekReclusive singer/songwriter Jandek will play the first live show of his career in the United States Aug. 28 in Austin, Texas. Additional shows are on tap for New Orleans (Sept. 2) and New York (Sept. 6).

After recording more than 40 albums over the past 25 years but never revealing his true identity, the artist made his unannounced live performance debut Oct. 17, 2004, at Glasgow's Instal Festival. He has since performed twice more in the United Kingdom.

The mystery of Jandek has so fascinated the indie rock community that it formed the basis for the 2003 documentary "Jandek on Corwood," which is now available on DVD.
