The Alkaline Trio and Reggie And The Full Effect will serve as the opening acts for the 28-city outing, news of which comes days after My Chemical Romance snagged four nominations for the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards.
The group will be touring in support of its 2004 Reprise debut "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge," which reached No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold more than 826,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The singles "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" and "Helena (So Long & Goodnight)" peaked at No. 4 and No. 11 respectively on Billboard's Modern Rock chart.
My Chemical Romance is currently on the road as part of the Vans Warped Tour, which visits Quebec City, Quebec, tonight (July 28). After the fall dates, the band will head to England for a 10-date trek that begins Nov. 1 in Wolverhampton.
Guitarist Ray Toro previously told Billboard.com the group was planning to incorporate a strong visual element into the upcoming shows. "We're really interested in actually putting on a show," he said. "I think it's something missing. Bands get on stage, play their songs and have some lights, and that's cool, but we really want to try to take it to the next level."
Toro also said the group began sketching out new material during downtime on its spring tour supporting Green Day, and that a few tracks could receive stage time this year before the band hits studio in early 2006.
"Playing songs live to gain a reaction to see if it works is kind of risky because for the most part, people just stand there wanting to hear something they know," he offered. "But we plan to try them out and see how they feel."
Here are the cities for My Chemical Romance's fall tour:
