Country star Jake Owen recently visited Billboard's New York studio and the singer sat down to play a stripped-down version of “Beachin,”his fifth No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart from his album "Days Of Gold."
Watch him perform "Beachin'" below:
Owen, who enjoyed the summer hit of 2011 with “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” told Billboard that the success of the song took him somewhat by surprise. “We put it out hoping it would do well, but you never really know when you put a song out. The timing was perfect, and it went number one July 4 weekend," he said. "I guess I’m the summertime anthem guy now.”
Owen recently scored a nomination for Choice Country Song from the Teen Choice Awards for "Beachin'," building on a year where he has continued his growth as a live performer on his "Days Of Gold" tour, which has also featured the Eli Young Band, Thomas Rhett, Parmalee and The Cadillac Three.
After the success of his "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" disc -- which spawned four number one hits -- how deep was the pressure making "Days Of Gold"? “I had a lot of pressure on me all the years beforehand to make an album that had a hit on it. After you make one that had four number ones in a row, believe it or not, it actually takes a lot of pressure off,” he said. "I’d finally hit my stride. I’d finally got people’s attention, and before I was trying to get it. Once I had it, it was up to me to decide what to do with it.”
