Spike Lee, Rudy Giuliani and a few sheepish Mets players tip their hats to the soon-to-retire Yankees legend
Whether you love or hate the New York Yankees, you gotta respect five-time World Series champ Derek Jeter for two decades of Major League Baseball dominance.
With his retirement on the horizon after 20 seasons, Jay Z, Action Bronson and a slew of other New York celebrities are paying tribute to the MLB shortstop in a touching tribute video put together by his longtime sponsor, Nike’s Jordan brand.
Jay, seated behind an executive conference table in a Manhattan skyscraper, lifts his Yankees cap to Jeter at the 1:07 mark. This gesture presumably means he's been forgiven for boasting, "I made the Yankees hat more famous than a Yankee can" back on "Empire State of Mind."
Queens chef-turned-rapper Action Bronson also tips his cap to Jeter in this clip, as well as New York icons like Spike Lee, Rudy Giuliani and the Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony. Hell, even New York Mets players appear on camera to honor Jeter, although their faces are blurred to protect their identities. (Still, it’s pretty easy to spot Mr. Met by his giant plush baseball head.)
This tribute video/commercial is set to run throughout the summer, so watch it now before endless repeats dilute an understated, elegant tribute to a baseball legend.
