News on Coldplay, ARIA Awards, 'Squid'
Beginning today (Sept. 14), Apple's iTunes Music Store is selling a digital EP from Coldplay led by the group's new single, "Fix You." Also bundled with the track is "The World Turned Upside Down" (leftover from sessions for the band's latest Capitol album, "X&Y"), a live version of the non-album track "Pour Me" and a live take on "Fix You" from a summer show in Arnhem, Holland.
All proceeds from the EP will be donated to the American Red Cross and the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences' MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund.
Coldplay's North American tour continues tonight (Sept. 14) in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and will run through Sept. 30 in Bristow, Va.

With seven nods, Missy Higgins leads the nominations for this year's Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) Awards, to be held Oct. 23 at the Sydney SuperDome. The best female artist nominee's debut, "The Sound of White," is up for album of the year, breakthrough artist album, pop release and highest-selling album. Her single "The Special Two" is up for single of the year and highest-selling single.
"The Sound of White" (Eleven/EMI Music Australia) has been recognized as the biggest-selling album of the year in Australia with close to 500,000 units (seven times platinum), according to Eleven. Higgins has been touring throughout the world this year, where the album is issued through Warner Bros.
Also up for multiple nominations are Ben Lee (Inertia) and Evermore (Warner) with five each, and Sarah Blasko (Dew Process/Universal) with four.

Former Luna principals Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips have penned two songs and the original score for the upcoming film "The Squid and the Whale." Wareham has also recorded an acoustic cover of Pink Floyd's "Hey You" for the album, which sports tracks from Lou Reed, the Cars, the Feelies, Loudon Wainwright III, Bert Jansch and John Phillips.
"The Squid and the Whale" soundtrack is due Oct. 18 via Ultra; the film, which stars Jeff Daniels, Laura Linney, Jesse Eisenberg and Owen Kline, hits theaters Oct. 5.
