Ariana Grande took over MTV’s New York studio July 2 to announce she will be perform her new single “Break Free” at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 24.
Grande appeared on a special edition of MTV’s former hit “TRL,” re-dubbed “Total Ariana Live,” to debut the Zedd-produced track, which becomes available for download on iTunes at midnight July 3. The performance at VMAs, being held at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., will be her first for the song.
“Break Free” will appear on her debut album, “My Everything,” which will be released the day after the VMAs.
She performed a stripped-down piano version of her Hot 100 No. 2 hit “Problem” on the show and, during an interview with MTV News’ Sway Calloway, played a “Hip Hop Mix-Up” game that challenged her musical skills and knowledge.
Last year, Grande performed a medley of “Baby I” and “The Way” during the pre-show on the red carpet outside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
