Eddie Vedder, Pharrell Williams and this year’s Oscar winners for song and score are among the 271 artists and executives invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Warner Music Group owner Len Blavatnik is among the executives invited.
The music branch has extended 12 invitations. Among those on the list are “Frozen” songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, “Gravity” composer Steven Price, jazz bassist and composer Stanley Clarke, and composers Steve Jablonsky, Angie Rubin and Buck Sanders. Earl Ghaffari, Tony Renis and Charles Strouse were also invited.
Morgan Neville, who won an Oscar for “20 Feet From Stardom and has specialized in music documentaries, was invited to join the documentary branch as was “Buena Vista Social Club” film editor Brian Johnson.
Invites go out to individuals the Academy deems have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. New members will be welcomed into the Academy at an invitation-only reception in September.
