Mariah Carey Leads AMA Nominees
With four mentions, Mariah Carey leads the nominees for the 33rd annual American Music Awards (AMA).With four mentions, Mariah Carey leads the nominees for the 33rd annual American Music Awards (AMA). Kelly Clarkson, 50 Cent and Green Day each netted three nods for the honors, which will be handed out Nov. 22 at Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium and broadcast live on ABC. Comedian/actor Cedric "The Entertainer" will host.
Carey is up for the favorite female artist trophy in the pop/rock and soul/rhythm & blues fields, while "The Emancipation of Mimi" (Def Jam), is up for favorite album in the same genres.
Clarkson is also up for favorite female pop/rock artist, as well as favorite adult contemporary artist. Her sophomore album, "Breakaway" (RCA), will compete with "Mimi" and Green Day's "American Idiot" (Reprise) in the favorite pop/rock album category. Green Day will also vie for favorite pop/rock band, duo or group and favorite alternative artist awards.
50 Cent is up for favorite male pop/rock artist and rap/hip-hop artist, while "The Massacre" (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) scored a nomination for favorite rap/hip-hop album.
Eminem, Destiny's Child, Fantasia, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, and Gretchen Wilson each received two nominations. Winners are selected by a ballot sent to approximately 20,000 music consumers.
