The upcoming 4th annual Full Moon Festival, set to take over Governor's Island on August 8, has taken to Instagram to share the announcement of the first round of performers for their upcoming beach-themed mini-festival, which takes its inspiration from the full moon parties of Thailand, set beneath an August full moon.
Rather than the typical press release roll out, this year the Full Moon Festival -- produced by NY-based creative production company MATTE Projects -- chose to release videos via their Instagram of each confirmed performer posted every thirty minutes beginning at noon on Wednesday (June 18) – see all videos here. The posted videos not only feature information on the festival, but also the music from the performers themselves, enabling users to discover the line-up and music simultaneously, amping up the interaction between festival organizers, artists, and fans.
Beginning with the announcement of New York-based group EMEFE, Matte quickly debuted its series of artists and stages for this year's festivities, including a Neon Gold Records stage to feature TBD artists from the boutique label, as well as confirmed groups Wave Racer, JDH & Dave P, Chela, Le Youth, Son Lux, the Aston Shuffle, The Knocks, Delorean, and Penguin Prison.
The producers behind the event, Matte Projects, are a production house focused on the conception, production, and promotion of creative music events, aiming to create shows that focus on unique experiences through a curated music journey. Founded in 2011 by Max Pollack and Brett Kincaid, MATTE Projects included past summer festival Full Moon, art and music series Painted BLACK, and all of French label Kitsuné's US events. MATTE also encompasses a culturally focused creative agency specializing in films, experience, and branding.
Explaining the importance for a mid-sized festival in a growing and competitive festival market, Matte's co-founder Brett Kincaid explains, "There is a huge gap between the massive festival and a weekend party. We feel comfortable in the space between and we think our audience enjoys something with the full experience of a festival but the intimacy of a party. A curated music experience.
Added co-founder Max Pollack, "We also think that as people get a bit older, as our crowd is, they like the idea of a 1 day all out party, versus 3 days of raging. Although that's not to say Full Moon will never evolve into something larger," he teased.
With the Instagram announcements, each artist's Instagram handles were also tagged, as well as the hashtag #fullmoonfest, with the hopes of growing the festival's social media reach, as well as the reach of their featured artists. After three years of sell outs, Full Moon 2014 might be soon joining the ranks with full-on festival status in years to come, but this year, they're focused on continuing the tradition of curating a real experience for fans, that features a diverse mix of artists, paired with art and food from a carefully curated line-up of artists and chefs.

Tickets can be purchased here, and range from "$30 for a "New Moon" pass, to $125 for a "VIP Moon" pass.
