Phish's Dec. 31, 1995, New Year's show at New York's Madison Square Garden is headed to the marketplace Dec. 20 as a three-CD set via Rhino. The 27-song show ran more than three-and-a-half hours and includes a number of interludes tied into guitarist Trey Anastasio's college music thesis, "Gamehendge."

During "Fly Famous Mockingbird," Anastasio explains that Phish spends its off-tour hours "creating" time in the Gamhendge Time Factory. Later, Phish lyricist Tom Marshall appears to sing a cover of Collective Soul's then-hit "Shine" in an attempt to show how difficult life would be if time stopped and this was the only song being played on the radio.

As 1995 slips into 1996, drummer Jon Fishman emerges from a tank suspended above the stage as Baby New Year, replete with diaper and bonnet. Phish then breaks into the traditional "Auld Lang Syne" before winding down the show with a 25-minute "You Enjoy Myself," a cover of Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" and the rock oldie "Johnny B. Goode."

The show is also notable in fan circles for its 15-minute "Runaway Jim," the 20-minute "Mike's Song" which closes the second disc and covers of the Who's "Drowned" and "Sea and Sand." Phish had performed the group's "Quadrophenia" in its entirety two months earlier during a Halloween show in Chicago.

In other Phish news, a DVD is in the works of the band's June 17, 2004, concert at Brooklyn, N.Y.'s Keyspan Park. Expected sometime next year, the project is also expected to include soundcheck footage as well as some bonus songs from the next night's show at the same venue, which boasted a guest appearance from Jay-Z.
