The ballad is the latest cut from the Billboard cover star's forthcoming album, 'x'
Following the release of the video for his latest single "Sing," Ed Sheeran went on "Late...With Jools Holland" last night (May 23) to debut a brand-new song, "Thinking Out Loud," off his forthcoming album "x."
The vividly romantic ballad—a stream-of-consciousness rambling about the endurance of love—is a sharp contrast to "Sing," a high-energy funk/R&B-infused song produced by Pharrell and "directly" inspired by Justin Timberlake. "I love 'Justified' and 'FutureSex/LoveSounds,' so I took inspiration from those," Sheeran told Billboard recently.
"Thinking Out Loud," though not an official single yet, is the second "x" cut to surface since the singer and recent Billboard cover star, who also recently contributed to the soundtrack for the film The Fault in Our Stars with the song "All of Our Stars," announced his sophomore album last month.
"x" drops via Asylum Records and Atlantic Records June 23. Watch Sheeran's performance below, and don't forget to check out his Billboard cover story.
