U2 guitarist the Edge and noted producer Bob Ezrin (Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, Kiss) are leading an initiative to provide instruments to musicians affected by the recent Gulf Coast hurricanes. Music Rising is supported by the Recording Academy's non-profit MusiCares Foundation, which will manage the organization's grants process.

"The devastation wrought by the hurricanes of 2005 to the Gulf Coast region has threatened not only the lives and livelihoods of the region's residents, but the area's rich and spirited culture as well," says the Edge. "Providing replacement instruments through Music Rising will not only help thousands of professional musicians affected by the hurricanes to regain a foothold on their future, but will also ensure that one of the Gulf Coast's greatest assets, its music, rises again."

In tandem with Music Rising, Gibson Guitar and Guitar Center Music Foundation are collaborating on the design, manufacture and sale of an exclusive Gibson guitar, proceeds from which will benefit the new program. Other partners are Kennedy Marshall Company, Musician's Friend, SpinCo, Ticketmaster and VH1 and MTV Networks.

A Music Rising Web page has been established at Grammy.com/musicares/musicrising/ to accept donations and facilitate online grant applications.
