Billboard Bits: Don Caballero, Country Jamboree, NY Dolls

News on Don Caballero, Country Jamboree, NY Dolls

Veteran instrumental rock act Don Caballero has signed a new deal with Relapse Records. The group, which currently features lone original member drummer Damon Che, is working on a new album with producer Al Sutton in Detroit. Among the tracks tipped for inclusion are "Palm Trees in the F***ing Bahamas," "World Class Listening Problem" and "Theme From Bricktop Clowns."

Don Caballero has not released a new studio album since 2000's "American Don," its last for longtime label Touch & Go and the final material that featured guitarist Ian Williams.

The new set will feature Che in tandem with guitarist Gene Doyle and Creta Bourzia guitarist Jeff Ellsworth and bassist Jason Jouver. That lineup has toured frequently in recent years.

Alan Jackson and Big & Rich will co-headline the Craven Country Jamboree, to be held July 13-17 in Craven, Saskatchewan. The lineup will also feature Craig Morgan, Freddy Fender, Restless Heart, Corb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertans, Blackhawk, Little Texas and comedy duo Williams and Ree, with more acts to be announced.

As tipped here in July, reunited punk legends the New York Dolls will on Jan. 15 return to the recording studio for the first time since 1974's "Too Much Too Soon." The as-yet-untitled album, due next summer via Roadrunner, will be produced by Jack Douglas, who previously worked on the Dolls' self-titled debut.

Among the tracks expected to make the cut are "Punishing World," "Plenty of Music" and "Rainbow Store." Surviving original members David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain will be backed on the set by guitarist Steve Conte, bassist Sami Yaffa, drummer Brian Delaney and keyboardist Brian Koonin. The group will tour next year in support of the album.
