Slave To The System is a group who recorded an album for the fun it, and criminy, does it know how to fool around.
Slave To The System is a group who recorded an album for the fun it, and criminy, does it know how to fool around. Brother Cane alumni Damon Johnson and Roman Glick, Queensryche affiliates Scott Rockenfield and Kelly Gray, and Scott Heard churn up gritty riffs and juicy beats, jumping right in with the driving "Stigmata" and "Ruby Wednesday" and kicking up more dirt with the title track and speed racer "Disinfected." Balancing the ride are tracks like the smooth "Live This Life" and throbbing "Abyss," which, despite their mid-tempo gait, spark as brightly as their faster-paced counterparts. The sultry groove of "Leaves" is a sexy surprise that gives way to the disquieting "Ragdoll," where Johnson sings about how a woman's last breath wasn't due to natural causes. It's a solid album worthy of the radio attention "Stigmata" is already gathering. -- Christa L. Titus
