2002 - Rapper Fat Joe (Joseph Cartagena) is booked for assault after turning himself in to New York police. The rapper and members of his entourage were involved in a May 12 altercation at B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill in New York's Times Square in which the victim was suffered a fractured jaw, multiple bruises, cuts, and contusions.

2000 - Customs officials at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport seize a shipment of Kenny Chesney's single, "I Lost It." The CD promotion singles are assembled with a package that includes "English water." On the cover, Chesney, dressed in a black suit and black hat, appears to be partially immersed in a pool of water.

1954 - Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys is born in Northumberland, England. The group's first big single is "West End Girls," a No. 1 song in 1986.

1947 - Balladeer Arlo Guthrie is born in Coney Island, N.Y., the son of folk singer Woody Guthrie. His most famous song is the 18-minute Thanksgiving tale "Alice's Restaurant."

1913 - Opera Singer Ljuba Welitsch is born.
